Q. We live in Maryland, she is 27 and lives on her own. My daughter's car hydroplaned, he hit her, and now the couple is suing her. He did have one broken rib, but now they are claiming everything including affection issues, etc. It was 2 years ago.

A. If your daughter had insurance at the time of accident, the insurance company has to pay, even if your daughter were a billionaire. As long as she had $500,000 coverage. If she had, let's say $300,000 coverage, the insurance company would have to pay $300,000 and your daughter would have had to contribute $200,000. However, the practice is that most cases settle within insurance limits.

Keep in mind that if they are suing for $500,000, it doesn't mean they are entitled to it. Sounds more like they are money hungry.

Hope everything turns alright eventually.

Good luck!
